The old capital, a short drive north of Da Nang
South-east of the centre, a residential side of the city with local markets rather than citadel gates. People looking at a longer stay often start here because it is ordinary Huế, not the visitor loop.
The imperial city and the streets just south of it, across the Perfume River in the commercial centre. This is the Huế people come to see. Staying here puts the citadel in walking distance and puts you in the busier part of town.
The riverside strip upstream of the citadel, garden houses and a quieter bank of the Perfume River. It is a pleasant place to be based for a few nights if you want the water without sleeping inside the old city.
